In the old city centre of Koper, the new business and residential complex Zeleni park was erected. Phase two of erection comprised three buildings with separate constructions: a three-storey commercial and residential building with three underground parking floors, a one-storey commercial building with three underground parking floors, and an independent three-storey underground parking garage. All three buildings are functionally connected and founded at the same benchmark 8 m below ground.
Foundation and protection of the construction pit were a great challenge since the terrain is in fact a deposit from the sea and the river and the buildings reach up to parcel lot borders. The garage is founded on a fortified gravel cushion, while the commercial and the residential buildings, which represent a more considerable load of the ground, are founded on drilled piles at a depth of 40 m below terrain level. During the construction, the construction pit had to be vertically protected by a diaphragm. The diaphragm wall was not anchored into the hinterland soil, support was carried out by slabs between the storeys on the level of the first basement and on the level of the terrain. The buildings have a reinforced-concrete skeleton, wherein the slabs predominantly abut on columns and concrete cores which serve as vertical communications of the buildings.
