Erection of a modern sports park that will also include business and commercial activities is anticipated in a wider area of the sports stadium which was designed by the architect Jože Plečnik and represents a valuable architectural heritage.
The area to be re-built extends over a ground-plan area of 61,550 m². The facilities will offer activities on 219,600 m² of gross surfaces, of that 173,000 m² below ground and 46,710 m² above ground. 83,000 m² will be intended for sports activities, among others for a stadium with a stand for 12,000 spectators. Business and commercial activities will be available on 48,710 m². A 77 m sky scraper with a hotel will be located on the southern side of the stadium, while three lower buildings will be arranged on the northern side. The entire complex will only have underground traffic routes with parking places on 88,000 m².
A building permit design and also a demanding project of construction pit protection and a traffic study were prepared. The architectural part of the project is in the hands of the project authors gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner supported by the local company ELEA iC that independently manages other segments of the project.
