The municipality of Ljubljana approached the degraded area of the former bicycle factory Rog. The project included the reconstruction of the existing building with a newly added extension, size of 9,000 m2, the construction of an underground garage of approximately 3,000 m2, and, a new park of 8,000 m2.
Due to its historical and architectural value, the existing building was partly preserved and, albeit renovated. A new international creative and social center is established in the center of Ljubljana, closely integrated into the local community. Center Rog with ground floor +3 stories has dimensions 120,0 x 18,5 m and 17,0 m height. Solid brick walls surround the ground floor with vaulted ceilings, additionally strengthened with reinforced shotcrete. Stories are reinforced concrete with frames and ribbed tops strengthened with carbon strips. The solar power plant will be on the flat surface of the roof.
For better seismic safety, the building is strengthened with new reinforced concrete walls, foundations with a jet grouting system, and a new extension with reinforced concrete cores surrounded by a beautiful glass facade that offers a view of the existing structure inside. The new garage is a single-story concrete structure reinforced with column heads and supported by reinforced concrete columns based on a reinforced concrete slab.
The Rog Center offers organizations, individuals, and visitors a creative environment in applied arts and design with its modern infrastructure.
