A new transport hub center is being built in the center of Ljubljana, at the intersection of the main access roads and regional rail lines. The area of the transport hub is a major crossroad and a central interchange point for public transport passengers in the country. The main objectives of the project are to improve the conditions for public transport passengers and to provide the highest level of comfort for cyclists and pedestrians.
The project is directly linked to several facilities under construction – the large Emonika complex and the Vilharia office building. A new high-rise Masarykova is under construction at the intersection with Njegoševa Street. All these new buildings are a further trigger for urgent infrastructure renewal.
The area will be governed by a new traffic regime in which motor vehicles will be subordinated, while public transport will be significantly improved by widening roads, yellow lanes, and optimized traffic lights. The whole area will be equipped with pedestrian and cycling areas.
Key changes to the road network:
– One-way traffic flow on the part of Vilharjeva Street next to the new bus station from the entrance to Emonika to the junction with Železná Street.
– Šmartinska Street will have a newly widened underpass,
– Masarykova Street and Trg OF will turn into a boulevard.
All roads are designed with greenery in mind. There will be a new double-sided avenue in most of the area, and new green spaces will also be provided near the railway station. A new plaza will erupt on the north side of the underpass a small triangular park for the residents on the other side, between Njegoševa Street and Bulgarian Street, and a completely redesigned Kolinska Park at the end of Masarykova Street.
