The Lower Carniola and White Carniola Mechanical-Biological Waste Treatment Centre in Leskovec, near Novo Mesto, provides modern waste management for approximately 100,000 residents.
With an annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes, it processes three types of waste: mixed municipal waste (19,000 tonnes), bulky waste (2,500 tonnes), and separately collected biological waste (3,500 tonnes). Treatment includes sorting, biological stabilization, and composting, enabling reuse or safe landfill disposal.
The building architecture follows the functional requirements of the centre. The main building covers 5,800 m² and houses all technological units. The facility also features an ecological island for separate waste collection, a composting area for bio-waste, a transformer station, an external washing platform, a small biological wastewater treatment plant, and an administration building.
