The building complex Trnovska vrata consists of six mutually dilated buildings sharing a common basement storey with garages and storage rooms. The ground floor and the mezzanine are occupied by business premises, 120 flats are located above them in three/four floors. The basement storey has a ground plan wider than the upper structures and is 240 m long, while its width amounts to 36 m in the narrowest portion and 69 m in the widest portion. In terms of construction, each of six buildings is a 6-storey (partly 3-storey and partly 1-storey) wall construction. In the business part and in the basement, the supporting elements are not only the walls but also haunches which support the plate in a grid of 7.5 x 8.0 m.
The main supporting construction for both vertical and horizontal loads are represented by walls in longitudinal and transversal direction, which extend over the entire height of the building, while in the business part vertical loads are taken over by cores and columns. The constructions between storeys are reinforced-concrete slabs. As the base foundations are very weak, the building has a deep foundation on drilled Benotto piles having a diameter of Ø60 to 100 cm and a length of 25 m. The basement is made in the form of an impermeable caisson, the fundamental reinforced-concrete slab has a thickness of 40 cm or 60 cm, peripheral basement walls are 30 cm thick.
