The old Jagodje–Šared local road is inadequate and a new connecting road needs to be constructed.
The area of the new road is located in Eocene flysches, mainly in the form of weathered flysch consisting of sands and silts. The thickness of the weathered layer is up to about 2 m, but locally outcrops of unweathered rock mass along road cuts can be seen.
Several slope cuts are foreseen along the road alignment, where flysch rock mass will have to be excavated. The excavated unweathered material will be deposited in the nearby landfill of Šared. Provision of adequate geomechanical criteria will be a special challenge. The landfill of Šared is designed in the shape of an artificially made terrace slope with a regulated stream below.
In the framework of project documentation preparation, field and laboratory analyses were made. The results were a basis for the assessment of the geomechanical properties of layers. The global stability of the site was verified and construction guidelines for construction were provided.
