It is placed on steep and geologically rich terrain, predominated with limestone and flysch. The construction of a tunnel means a much safer and essential road connection between the south tourist coast with other regional towns. The architecture is based on minimal intervention in nature.
A consortium of design companies led by the iC group offered the client a comprehensive solution. The project team consisted of iC Salzburg, Elea iC, IBE, SEED Consulting, InfraKonsult, and partners from Austria, Slovenia, Albania, and Italy. The entire project was designed in a highly demanding period of six months, including a two-pipe tunnel connected with crossbeams, a bridge with sloping spans of 110 m, and a bridge with a shorter span.

The two-pipe tunnel consists of a main and an emergency tunnel, which will be used to remove drivers in the event of an accident. The north and south portals of the tunnel are designed as integral reinforced concrete structures. According to security requirements, a fire station will be built on the northern portal, which will offer a permanent presence of firefighters. A water reservoir will be placed above the tunnel to ensure water to firefighters in case of fire. The tunnel’s power plant and ventilation will be built on the south portal.

The primary substructure and internal lining of the tunnel, together with both portal areas, were entirely designed within the iC group. To ease the coordination within the consortium, we used geolocated BIM models based on geometry and systematic input of information for extracts of quantities and preparation of inventories.
In addition to the project documentation, the same models also served for visualization and presentation material in all project phases.

[97
post-62022","portfolio","type-portfolio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","portfolio_category-tunnels-and-geotechnics
["GET
