The project of construction of H6 motorway Jagodje–Lucija with the motorway access Piran foresees construction of two tunnels: a double-tube two-lane tunnel Lucan which is designed as a three-lane tunnel at the western part, and Valeta tunnel.
The area concerned is composed of Eocene flysch layers that appear underneath the weathered. The rock surface is characterized by alternating layers of marl and sandstone, thicker layers of carbonate turbidite are also present. A relatively equal stratification can be observed along the entire alignment of the tunnel with a slight descent towards the south-west. A broader area of the tunnel alignment is not tectonically deformed. The analysis of the pictures from the air and subsequent field examinations have confirmed individual steep fractures that cut the alignment of the tunnel and along which the rock mass will be more cracked.
In the framework of preparation of the geological and geotechnical study, Elea iC carried out field and laboratory analyses. Obtained results were used as a basis for subsequent tunnel planning.
