R5 is a set of three residential & business buildings. The largest building reaches a height of 65 m, has 18 above-ground stories, and is of a triangular shape. On the southern side, the stories get smaller in a terraced manner such that the building having a width of 17 m has a length of 65 m in the lower stories while it only has 7 m on the top story. Two smaller buildings have 7 and 3 above-ground stories, respectively. Intervention routes, playgrounds for children, and promenades are arranged among the buildings of the above-ground stories on the slab above the first basement.
All buildings are designed as reinforced-concrete wall constructions with reinforced-concrete slabs between the stories. The buildings are separated from each other in terms of dilatation, they are founded on connected strip footings and individual footings, while both main carrying cores of the higher building are founded on a foundation plate with a thickness of 140 cm. These two cores on the ground floor, the mezzanine, and the 1st floor provide for the main stiffness of the building in the event of earthquake loads while carrying reinforced-concrete walls are added in higher stories in order to provide for the vertical carrying capacity of the above-ground slabs between the stories and to connect both cores into a whole.
